KUALA LUMPUR: He has been putting up in the hospital for the past four months to look after his conjoined twin boys and will spend Hari Raya in the ward with them.
Yet, this will be the best Hari Raya for Azli Sabran, 40, because his one year-old sons are alive and recovering well from a miraculous surgery to separate them on July 14.
“I am tired. I sleep three hours a night and another three hours during the day if my sons are asleep.
Fatherly love: Azli playing with sons Muaimin (left) and Muaiman at the paediatric ward of Hospital Kuala Lumpur.
“But all the fatigue is forgotten when I think about how blessed I am that my boys are safe and sound,” said the former mechanic with a smile when met at the paediatric ward of Hospital Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
Azli, who sleeps in a single bed next to his boys in the ward, said he would remain in the hospital until October when Muaiman and Muaimin were expected to be discharged.
“This will be my first time spending Hari Raya away from my home in Segamat, Johor, but I am satisfied. This will be a very special Hari Raya and I've never felt so at ease,” he said.
The father of four said he bought his sons a few sets of baju raya including one in green to match the colour of the ward.
“My family members will be visiting us at the ward on the third day of Hari Raya,” Azli said, adding that his wife was in Johor, looking after their youngest child, a month-old baby girl. Their eldest child is a two-year-old girl.
While he missed his family, Azli said Muaiman and Muaimin required his care and attention.
“Their first words were Ayah, sakit' (It hurts, father) because I help to wash certain wounds from the surgery,” Azli said of the boys, who were previously joined at the pelvis and shared three legs between them.
Muaiman and Muaimin, who were born without an anal opening, were successfully separated after a 24-hour surgery by the HKL medical team.
The operation was deemed the most complicated case handled by HKL because of the complex urinary system shared between them.
Malaysian Twins Club chairman Huszaini Haron, who visited Azli and the twins, said he was thankful that Malaysian doctors had the necessary skills to perform such a remarkable surgery.

InsyaAllah
